About this course
This essential two-morning course is aimed at non-benefit staff and volunteers working with people for whom benefits are an issue.
It provides a comprehensive overview of the benefits and tax credits system and enables staff to complete basic income maximisation checks on behalf of clients, tenants and service users.
The course covers:
- The structure of the benefit system
- The different categories of benefits
- Basic entitlement to different benefits
- The basic rules of universal credit and how to claim
- The benefit cap
- When and how to challenge decisions
Methods of delivery and timings
This full-day equivalent, basic-level course, is delivered online via Zoom over two consecutive mornings. It runs from 10am to 1pm on each day, with a half hour break between 11.15-11.45.
It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
